If I convert a Vetterli bolt to centerfire, could I theoretically use it in the different models of Swiss Vetterli's?
The idea is to avoid having to convert more rifle bolts than needed.
Thanks in advance for any replys (please be gentle)!

I'm not sure if this question has been covered here before.

Stupid Question: After loud explosion, you ask yourself, "Why didn't I ask about that? hey, didn't I have five fingers on that hand?"
What rifle year model bolt were you considering? I'm not going to know the answer to this myself, but that's the first thing we need to know. Bruce |

My dear ole pappy used to say " There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers"
Better to ask than lose an eye or finger There are some great posts that will give you an idea of the problems you may encounter. BOLT CONVERSION , M71 M81 bolt switch , Parts interchangability? , there are some great posts by some very experianced people on this forum, (thank god or I would be lost |

Bottom line on bolt interchangeability is this...
Question #1: Does the headspace match (reasonably well)? Do a search on the conversion posts as this has been explained here several times already. Experience for most has shown that the older rifles (M71, etc.) tend not to interchange with the newer ones (M78, M81) and that the newer ones will interchange 'most' of the time. You still need to measure the bolt length to check headspace... Question #2: Does the bolt fit in the intended rifle? Many times the headspace will work, but some of the other parts relationships are a little off and the locking lugs won't engage, the sear won't hook up right, or some other thing. You answer those two questions right and chances are you won't damage any anatomy...

Nothing with Trail Boss... I use SR4759 pretty much in all my oldsters Vetterlis, Peabody and Beaumont, to good effect and good accuracy, so I haven't
tried that powder yet.
19.5 grns of 4759 is a good load in most Vettys
