My brother and I each have one of the "hairy monkey" packs that are supposedly 1942 models. I had a chance to compare them in detail after the recent discussion of them, and his pack is different. It is marked "40" for 1940, and the outer flap cannot be detached for a separate pack, being sewn on to the top. The wooden rod is still used to attach the straps. The bag lining the flap hs a center slit, rather than being top-loaded. Other than this, there is not any difference between his pack and my 1944 tornister. Is this topic esoteric enough?
