I'd like to find and purchase a good quality padded soft case suitable for a K31. Our gun has long been kept in a shotgun case that doesn't fit it due to the Diopter sight and side mounted bolt but I want to rectify that. My father, who passed away recently, purchased this K31 in 1959 for target shooting after having previously used one when serving in the Swiss Army. I'm looking for something simple and that looks 'period', not a fancy, modern case. Something like a Swiss soldier or reservist would have used to store his gun in back in the day. Posts: 396 (06/30/09 07:30:31) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	While I was growing up in Zurich during WW2 I never saw a K31 carried in a case. On the street car, on bicycles or just walking on the street to go to the range, the gun was always carried open. If the man went into a restaurant to eat or have a beer the gun was left in a rack outside the front door. One time in the late 70 I was flying back to Canada out of Zurich. A bunch of recruits came in to the airport to fly to Geneva. Each one of them carried a 1957 sturmgewehr open on to the aircraft. Try this in north America. Zurihegel

Now we all will besiege Czech to make us reproduction rifle cases! I hope he gives you a good percentage! I do recall that the diopter sights came with protective covers of their own to use while mounted on the rifle. It is also interesting that military rifles were sent from arsenal to arsenal just by postal or rail delivery. In a country where everyone already had such a rifle, who would want to steal one? These cases are also apparently not padded. After the hobnails, what's a few more whacks! Bruce

If anyone does some sewing in your family, or you know someone who does, you can get your own "period" padded rifle case made. Get one of the old Swiss Army blankets and have it folded and cut to hold your rifle. You will want to have it double-stitched at the muzzle end, and make sure there is room for any scopes, diopters, etc. you may plan on adding. A little loose is good, too tight is not! Some sturdy cloth trim along the seam and at wear points (look at the originals) are nice extras. If you want nice buckles and straps to close it, a handle or sling, it depends on the skills of your maker. If you don't want to desecrate a genuine old Swiss Army blanket for this, any of the currently available good-quality military surplus blankets will work. Have fun! It's easy! Bruce

Time...have a hard time keeping up with the current backlog... Work has been nuts busy lately with lots of OT 2. Materials.... Leather is not an issue, but try finding canvas in just the right color at the fabric dept in the local Wal-mart It likely can be found but it will take some searching. I'd love to just ditch the whole full time thing and dedicate my work to leather and swiss rifles... Alas, for the moment it cannot be... A teenager on his way to college excludes the possibility of that. Besides, I have to try and make extra now so Uncle O can send it off to get other people cars and houses I have one of the Garand cases and they work great for the K31s BTW "E Svizzeri sono armatissimi e liberissimi" "The Swiss are the most armed and the most free" N. The examples that Guisan posted are what I had in my head. I'll e-mail a couple of relatives over there to see if they have any sources for something similar. If not, then will check on what sort of period Garand case can be found over here. Hiergehts
