Guisan can help, but Bob S. may disagree with what you want to do and Grafs has k31 parts. http://www.grafs.com/shooting/3964

Why would Bob S. disagree?

Bob S. knows all of the rules and I think there's something about making any alteration to an issue rifle in that shoot.

I believe altering the K-31 would then make in ineligible for the vintage match. Also, there is no need.
Bob S. Has a post showing how to sling the K-31 and is a competitive shooter who knows where he speaks from. |

The rule changed this year. For rifles with side-mount slings, like the Swiss carbines and the K98k, you can change to bottom mount as long as the longitudinal
location of the sling swivel remains the same. For the Swiss carbines, simple substitution of the rifle lower band for the carbine band is quick, easy, and now
legal. There has probably been a "run" on the GEW1911 lower bands because of this. Numrich had them; they may be listed as a GEW1889 part, but they
are identical.
If you can't find one, you can still use the side mount very effectively as long as you DO NOT put a twist in the sling as you would with a bottom mount. The pictures on how to do this are still up on the old board. Resp'y, Bob S. USN Distinguished Marksman No. O-067 |

O.K. I see what your talking about.
Actually, the rules do allow for this modification. I am a CMP G-S-M Master Instructor and sometimes work for the CMP as a line official and armorer. The ruling is located on page 26 of the 13th Edition 2009 CMP Competition Rules. Section 6.3.6 Item #7 "Rifles that were issued with side-mounted front sling swivels may be retrofitted with sling swivels of military type (not quick detachable) that are positioned in the 6o'clock location, relative to its original swing swivel location ..........." I think this is a good ruling as it allows for a more solid postion and should enable us who want to fire the K31 to be even more competitive. I know I am new on this forum an new to the Swiss rifles, but I am very excited about shooting the 1911 and K31 in the Nationals. After 23 years of high power competition it almost became a second job. Now, I have something new to compete with and all the fun is back. Thanks to all those wonderful people at this years CMP Eastern Games who showed me about what the Swiss Rifles and what great rifles they are. I have since bought two and am looking for a third. If I may ever be of service to anyone here, when it comes to CMP related information or armorer questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your patience with me, Sights

I'm going to note your name and credentials because I'm very interested in the CMP program.
Good luck and do us proud! And I might be able to help with the swivel band. Dad has lots of parts so I'll look later today.

The C.M.P. ruling allowing the use of a sling swivel at the 6 o'clock position, does that ruling carry over to the N.R.A. as issued competition? I have an
extra barrel band that has been milled out to accept the 6 o'clock swivel and still tighten on the rifle

The only "as issued" category that the NRA has is for the M1 rifle, and that's only for Marksman and Sharpshooter classifications. You can shoot
any Swiss rifle in an NRA match in the Match Rifle category; and in that category, you can make just about any modifications that you want as long as the rifle
is safe. Well, muzzle brakes are not allowed.
