Do you carry a concealed sidearm? What caliber do you prefer and what did you have to do to qualify for your CC Permit?

Not yet, I've been thinking about it more and more, here in minnesota we have to take a class that lasts about 6 hours and costs around $125, then take the
certificate to the local police and pay another $125 for a background check and paper work, then the permit is good for 5 years, but you still have to have a
background check done every year to make sure you haven't been naughty. I have a Springfield Armory XD-9 that I will carry after jumping thru all the
hoops.

Just starting the process here in Tacoma WA. You have to be a resident and show that you have been a resident for at least 90 days. Procure the application
from the city court house. Fill it out and turn it into the local sherrif's office. I plan to carry my 15 year old Ruger P90

Nope. Not in Utah you don't. I've seen signs at the border... "No Canadians may proceed beyond this point".
I think it has something to do with the banning of "Eh?" |

Depending on what I am doing and what season, either 7.62X25, .38 spl, .357mag, or 41mag. I order to qualify I sent $25 to the county I live in and do not worry about anything until it is time to renew(every 5 years) , then I send $25 to the county I live in and do not worry about anything until it is time to renew. You get the idea. Pa is a right to carry state and they must have a valid reason to deny you a CCW. Philadelphia and Pittsburgh are different. I do not know and do not visit either one.

Have carried for years and got a license when MO passed the CCW. I carry a Taurus 850 Bodyguard SS small of the back with 38 Spcl Federal Hydra Shocks.
To get the license I had to take a course ($100),Qualify with a revolver and a pistol then shoot my qualification target with my choice, then submit paperwork to the local constable plus ($100) and wait 6 weeks. Renewal is $50 every three ears. I only got the license to make me legal now. Like I said I carried for years without a license. SRO

SRO, can you describe the kinds of things that made up the course? I asked all of this because I'm interested in knowing how these different courses
prepared everyone for confrontations.
Thanks Latigo |

I have a Utah Permit and carry a SIG P6 (P225) in 9mm that was a German Police Surplus. I load for carry with 124gr Remington Golden Sabers
Utah course consists of some hand to hand combat basics and mostly the psychology involved if you find yourself in a shooting situation. The same instructor also offered a tactical shooting class (which I took) which covered many different situations when it comes to a confrontation with live fire exercises to emphasize the points. The CCW class did not cover much of that practically except for the mindset issues. It's kind of hard to do in a sitting down classroom session. I feel that many in the class would, if put into a situation simply freeze and never get a shot off. The practical training was essential IMHO, which is why I chose to take the extra class...

And just how many 'shots' do you get from your 'weapon'?

Well I must say the rapid firing is over these days Ron but it still functions well for it's age, it's loaded most of the time and I'm not
complaining.
And btw I did no courses at all, it worked out well at first sight (natural talent that is) and I don't need to pay anything to carry concealed, it's the opposite here, you need to pay and get lots of trouble when you DON'T carry concealed.... Guisan.

Latigo;
The course consisted of 8 hours class time and then range time to do the shooting and qualification shots of 20 shots at 7 yards. The class time consisted of going over the CCW law and discussion of when and if situations to give everyone an idea of situations that might come up and wheather you could shoot or not. As Czech stated there was some combat training but just basics mostly. I too have taken an additional tactial class that went into more detail as to clearing houses and stress situations and how to respond. If I could get the image to upload I would post a pic of my qualification target, but I have tried to upload it three times to no avail. Anyone else having problems uploading images? SRO
