Last weekend, the Mo-Kan Swiss Riflemen hosted another Swiss match. As I had already qualified for both medals, and didn't have anything to do other
than help officiate, so I decided to at least get a bit of trigger-time out of the 90-mile roundtrip. I brought along my K11, which I had NEVER fired, even
once. This rifle came out of the group buy a few years ago, and had been languishing in the back corner of the gun safe. I had planned on firing a group on
the 100 yard range, just to make sure it was "on paper", but I didn't get to the range early enough to do that before the match, so the first
shots I fired were at 300 meters. I figured the last Swiss to fire it probably had it zeroed, but just to make sure, I had a spotter watch the bullet's
wake through his scope. After being assured I was hitting the target somewhere, I took 6 sighters. Not a bad group, just a tad high, and
about 8 inches to the right. After a slight windage adjustment, I did this:
I have to say, I was pretty pleased with myself, Even with the one flyer. After spending so much time shooting with diopters, I wouldn't have dreamed I
could do that with the issue sights, on a K11 no less, and one I had never shot before that morning! Well, that was the slow-fire portion. I didn't do so
well on the rapid fire (three shots landed in the "2" zone, but they were offset by an equal number of "4"s), but I still managed a
(barely) qualifying score of 57.
Here's a pic of the rifle. Hey, Rockport, thanks for hookin' me up with a sweet carbine!
