Anybody know if there is a more affordable bullet that resembles the GP11?
I'm not shooting match, just for fun, but would like to get close to the profile of the factory swiss bullets.
Do the Prvi bullets come close?

"cheap" bullets that replicate the GP11? |

Hey guys, I've been looking around, and couldn't really find anything.
Anybody know if there is a more affordable bullet that resembles the GP11? I'm not shooting match, just for fun, but would like to get close to the profile of the factory swiss bullets. Do the Prvi bullets come close? |

Re: "cheap" bullets that replicate the GP11?Chris -No such animal. The closest bullet that I've found that 'closely' replicates the GP11 projectile is the Berger VLD bullets and they are anything BUT cheap. Another possibility might be the Hornady bullets with the "Secant Ogive". The older lots that I have, have a very straight ogive. If you want inexpensive bullets, I would go with the Prvi Partizans. They shoot well and not too far off the long-sloping ogive of the GP11. I just checked Graf & Sons site and it looks like .30" caliber bullets of multiple brands are virtually 'flying' off their shelves. Don't wait too long to purchase. ...........Ya snooze, ya lose! I wish that Grafs or someone in the U.S. offered the prvi B-345 bullet. It's the bullet used in their loaded FMJ cartridges that Grafs carry. It's a
174 grain FMJBT that is pretty close to the GP11 profile.
The first bullet is the GP11, the middle is the prvi B-345 and the next is the 165 grain PSP. The bullets are listed on prvi's website but I've not
been able to find any for sale in the U.S. If anyone knows of the availability of these particular bullets please let us know.

LoLo -
Nice visual comparison. I haven't found any of the Prvi B-345 174gr. FMJ BT bullets either. I noted that they are sold in the UK though. I've been using their B-363 168gr. HP BT bullets that I got from Graf & Sons. They shoot well but are now 'out of stock' at Graf's. The Prvi B-366 175gr. FMJ BT and their B-500 175gr. FMJ BT may warrant a 'look-see' if we could locate those also. If I find out any further info. I'll post it here. Best, Ron |

Have you thought about the 175g fmjbt the Wideners have in stock? I picked up some last spring and they shoot pretty good in my K31's. I haven't
compaired them with the GP11.

The Privi 174gr bullet allows you to reload to GP11 COL , without jamming in the leads, the 175gr privi in my experience if loaded to GP11 COL jams in the
leads.

If you are really after accuracy then you need to weigh the Prvi bullets. The ones I got ranged from 170gr to 175.5gr. Separation into groups is simple with a
inexpensive electronic scale that has a readout in grains. These bullets shoot well in my K-31s but as mentioned you need to watch the OAL and check it in
rifle. The bullets have shot well but have gone up in price like all other components but are still less expensive than brand name match bullets and seem to
shoot as well.

Cheap bullets - right now? The drop in the price of metals won't settle in for a while. Bullets are about double what they were five years ago.
That said, there are many quality bullets that are close to the GP 11. Sierra, Nosler, Speer, Hornady, Berger, and others make very good quality 30 caliber bullets. Almost anything in the 165-180 grain range will be close in Ballistic Coefficient and accuracy potential. From there it's finding the right charge, powder type, primer type, seating depth, etc., and using the usual techniques for making accurate ammo. Not to rain on anyone's parade, but the K31 shares the same weaknesses as other bolt action military rifles when it comes to accuracy potential while staying in original military form. Absent better sights, bedding, etc., it will only get so accurate. Sierra recommends an "Accuracy Load" involving their 168gr Matchking bullet and IMR4064 powder. It's not as fast as GP11, but for 300m and less that shouldn't make much of a difference. If you want them all in a playing card at 1000yds, open your checkbook. Matt |
