  I got my 1889 yesterday, just need a minor bore cleaning, and a little dressing of the wood under the bolt latch so it would come out easily. Other than that
  it was in great shape(from Simpsons).  Based on the serial number it was made in 1892, however when I took the butt-plate off it seemed to have an 1895 date
  on the stock, maybe I&#39;m reading it wrong, or it was replaced... ]]></description>

I have got in my collection a original M1889 Schmidt Rubin riffle, It is in a pretty pore condition but i am going to restore it.

The Rubber (i think it is) on the pull lever, is nearly all gone, but it can still be used, i was thinking about turning some new ones in aluminum.

I&#39;m new here and already I&#39;ve got questions.  I recently acquired a sporterized version of what I presume is an 1889.  It&#39;s really excellent
condition, except for the chop done to the hand guard and the stock.  I&#39;ve got a new handguard and all the metal bits needed to return this rifle to
something approaching it&#39;s orgininal condition but the missing portion of the stock is going to be a challenge.  I&#39;m skilled enough to carve and fit
