Seen for sale in Germany, although I have my doubts they say it's original.
It's not listed in any manual or approved for Swiss shooting matches as far as I know.

Papal rifles

Can anyone tell me if the Papal Swiss Guard used any other Schmidt-Rubins other than the K-31? Also, if you have any information and/or photos on the rifles (Swiss or others) they have used since the 1870s I would appreciate seeing it.

Took my k31 to the range for the first time last week. What a sweet rifle! I came to the conclusion that I dislike the standard notch/blade sights. I have 20/20 vision but for some reason have a very hard time seeing the sights and lining them up, and acquiring the target.

I've been searching and reading trying to understand the pros and cons of something like the mojo snapsight with front and rear aperture versus the St.Marie type II diopter sights, or the W+F diopter...

Interesting front sight adjuster K11 K31

Found this interesting never seen before front sight adjuster.
It bears the markings "MEHA" (or MERA) and the number 183.
The ring on the handle is scaled from 1 to 5. Each step moves the blade by 0,2mm, one full turn of the handle thus 1mm.
And unlike most adjusters, with this one it's possible to remove the blade from the socket by pushing it fully towards the rifle and replace it by another one.

Somebody showed me such a modified carbine with a serial higher as the highest serial #26335 in the books and I think I found the answer to that. The books do list the modified carbines with year, number modified and serials and that serial listing is not correct, the guns were not modified on serial sequence (that's impossible to do) but were modified in mixed serial batches. The numbers listed for each year are probably correct but the author made the mistake to add the supposed...

Not sure who "Ranch Products" is, but it offers a standard rail. It seems an awful lot like the SP mount!

Hard rubber, also vulcanite or ebonite, it's a hard, moldable, polished dark colored (ranging from brown to black) early rubber. Vulcanite was produced by adding sulfur to vulcanized rubber. Corrosion makes the screw that holds the knobs to expand causing the rubber to crack, later replacement knobs were first made of bakelite and now they are made of plastic with stainless steel...

One of our inquisitive comrades has asked me to start a thread about the variation observed in some close-up pictures of K31 serials.

What the K11 and K31 have in common is their overall length and their slings but that's about it as the K11 was designed by Rudolf Schmidt and the K31 by Adolf Furrer, both were directors and designers of the Waffenfabrik Bern at different times.

The tools I used are an RCBS primer pocket swager, a stout loading press, a drill, a spare shellholder, and a ball bearing about 1/2 inch...

K11 barrel band question

OK, I'm cleaning up a K11 I recently acquired, and it has a very strange lower barrel band. No screw, sling attachment is welded, doesn't swivel. Has the last 3 numbers of the serial # on it. Any ideas?
