Hard rubber, also vulcanite or ebonite, it's a hard, moldable, polished dark colored (ranging from brown to black) early rubber. Vulcanite was produced by adding sulfur to vulcanized rubber. As I hope you can see in the picture, one of these appears a tad irregular and looks to me like it was etched, while the earlier one is neatly stamped. Which parts on a K31 are most prone to breakage, and where is the best place to buy them? If I can't get a second K31, I would like to have replacement parts available so I'm not affraid to shoot the one I have.

So far I have an extra extractor and bolt face (or thing the extractor fits into).

Just acquired a K31 barreled action w/bolt for a new project. I plan to use a St Marie diopter set with it, but I'd like to remove the original front sight assembly.

Before I start hammering away here, does anyone have any experience doing this that can share the process ?

I have acquired a Swiss Hammerli single-shot 300 meter free rifle that's based on the K-31 style action.

However, it's not a conversion of a military rifle. It's a much heaver action.
